We provide some basic information, but there are some configurations we haven’t been able to debug yet. Pro Tip: this is rare, but if you get weird errors during simulation and have gone through typical debug procedures mentioned in class, try starting a new project with the files on a lab machine – you may be running an incompatible Xilinx/Windows configuration.Download the latest WebPack version (also free, several GB’s – do this at school if you don’t have a fast connection).Go to & register for a user account (free) this process can take a few minutes or a couple days – be sure to check your spam folder.We will discuss the differences among the different software we can use for the course in class. For Mac users: you can still code using any text editor, but simulations will need to be done on lab computers (or you will need to dual boot). Unfortunately, there is no Macintosh support for any VHDL simulators if you find one, please let us know. You are responsible for figuring out the small differences, such as button locations, between the version you are using and the versions used for presentation. Note that some of these videos are presented with an older version of Xilinx.

Xilinx vivado mac for free#
Xilinx is available for free via the website. Other versions of ISE WebPack should be fine, but we haven’t tested all versions. We recommend installing Xilinx Vivado HL WebPack (latest version recommended). We will base simulations off the current version installed on the lab machines. The version available in the labs and online will vary, but they all produce the same output for the labs presented here. We will be using the Xilinx Vivado / ISE Project Navigator & Simulator, which should also be installed in the open Engineering Labs (and Virtual Computer Lab), to complete our assignments.
